Dumas Central Industries & Central Conveyor Company Manufacturing Employees Join Millwrights Local 1102

April 1, 2002

Manufacturing employees of Dumas Central Industries and Central Conveyor Company unanimously agreed to the unionization of the both the Fraser and Brighton facilities, joining Millwrights Local 1102.

This new membership provides shop employees with many increased opportunities including:

  • comprehensive, world-class apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs
  • new training and specialization programs to keep pace with developments in construction methods and technology
  • legal assistance
  • and excellent health, dental and retirement benefits

Because of this new affiliation, all other departments of DCI & CCC were able to take advantage of the health, dental and retirement programs. This couldn't have come at a better time, too, as a majority of the company employees were able to keep their bi-weekly costs the same for benefits versus a substantial increase that had been proposed by the former coverage in place.

What Is A Millwright?

Millwrights are members of an élite construction industry subspecialty that works primarily in metal and precision machinery.

Millwrights install conveyor systems, giant turbines and electrical generators. They install and maintain factory machinery, and perform much of the precision installation and maintenance work in nuclear power stations.

As highly skilled construction mechanics, millwrights study and interpret blueprints and perform the drilling, welding, bolting and fabricating necessary to bring the plans to life.
